BUILDing Opportunity
A Letter from our CEO & Founder

Dear BUILD Friends and Family,

On Wednesday, November 9th, we awoke to a nation divided.  The recent presidential election has shown us how much pain there is to heal in America and how much further we have yet to go to bridge the divide.

At BUILD, as in much of the country, we have been grappling with many questions no one can answer and facing the fear that this uncertainty brings many of us – students, alumni, staff, volunteers and supporters alike. We are working with our partners to make sense of this changing landscape in order to ensure that BUILD’s highly successful program continues to prepare some of our country’s most underserved youth for high school, college and career success.

We have long known that this work is a marathon and not a sprint and our BUILD family will lead our young people across the finish line. Ensuring their success is more critical now than ever before. Thank you for your partnership and continued commitment to closing the opportunity gap, thereby bringing us all closer together.

We are One BUILD and we have work to do.

BUILD Love,
Suzanne McKechnie Klahr

November 29th is #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is right around the corner and this year BUILD will be participating in a crowdfunding campaign to generate support for all of our regions.  For this one day only Classy, our crowdfunding partner, will waive the transaction fee usually applied to every gift.

Matching Opportunity

BUILD is fortunate to partner with the Sobrato Family Foundation! This year, SFF invested $50,000 to increase capacity at our Peninsula site. For donations made to BUILD: Bay Area (Peninsula) by first time donors or donors increasing their gift by the end of the year, your donation will be matched 2:1. With your help, the Sobrato Family Foundation Challenge Grant leverages into $152,500 of support for 266 Peninsula-based students.

BUILD to Honor Golden State Warriors at Annual Gala

BUILD is honoring the Golden State Warriors with the “Pitch” Prize for extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit at the seventh annual Gala in March 2017.

“The Warriors have reimagined the game of basketball with their innovative spirit,” said Suzanne McKechnie Klahr, Founder and CEO of BUILD. “The team’s leadership and players embrace the same skills we develop in our students, which we call our SPARK SKILLS – collaboration, communication, problem-solving, grit, innovation and self-management – and exemplify how an entrepreneurial mindset leads to unparalleled success. We are delighted to honor their achievements with this year’s Pitch Prize.”
