BUILD.org Announces Ten Semi-Finalists for the Second Annual Southwestern PA Youth Pitch Competition

BUILD.org proudly presents the top 10 semi-finalist student teams that will face-off in the Second Annual 2023 Southwestern PA Youth Pitch Competition on April 20, 2023. Congratulations!

  5. The Bratz, Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy
  6. The SciTech Connection Services, Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy 
  7. Sin Shannon, Westinghouse Academy 
  8. Diversity in the Making, Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship
  9. The Health Alternative Foundation (The HAF), Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy
  10. Imagination & Beyond, McKeesport Area Senior High School

With the generous support of BNY Mellon, Comcast NBCUniversal, DonorsChoose, and the Richard King Mellon Foundation, this innovative entrepreneurship competition highlights BUILD’s mission to ignite the power of youth in underserved communities to build career success, entrepreneurial mindsets and opportunity through offering real-world experiences and skills. All middle and high school students in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties are eligible to participate in this competition. Additionally, Mayor Ed Gainey is expected to participate in the competition.

All educators will receive a free, one hour professional development training session on the BUILD Design Challenge and Design Thinking Principles, and 10-hours of free curriculum to help their students implement Human-Centered Design.

VIDEO PREPARATION GUIDELINES

HOW TO RECORD

1. iPhone, iPad, Zoom and Loom are all choices of recording tools for their video presentation 
2. Record with both students and their presentation in view
3. Record horizontally for the best view of the students and their presentation
4. Follow Presentation Diagram to the Right

PRESENTATION TIPS.

- Make eye contact with the camera
- Notecards may be used as cue cards
•Pro Tip: Notecards should avoid having a full script
- Even when you are not speaking, don’t forget the camera is still recording!
•Be aware of your body language while you and your business partners are speaking
- Everyone has an opportunity to speak
- Professional dress is encouraged
- Practice makes perfect
•Practice how you will transition from each speaker
•Project your voice when you speak​
