Jalen Jahn secures $10K in Do-or-Dier’s BUILD contest

This year, BUILD was excited to partner with Rob Dyrdek and the Do or Dier Foundation to launch our BUILD’s See it. Believe it. Do it. Competition! This year’s winner was Jalen Jahn, 16-year-old entrepreneur from Atlanta, GA, who became the youngest fashion-house founder in 2020 when he founded his eponymous luxury streetwear brand JALENJAHN. He competed alongside student business teams across the nation for the grand price of $10K in non-dilutive capital. All teams overcame a challenge, shared visions they have for their own lives and how are they using entrepreneurship to make a difference in their communities. Congratulations to all participants!

To accept the award, both Jalen and BUILD’s CEO Ayele Shakur were both featured on Rob Dyrdek’s podcast coincidentally titled “BUILD with Rob!” Rob Dyrdek builds & invests in startups, takes them to multi-million dollar exits, and shares lessons along the way.

VIDEO PREPARATION GUIDELINES

HOW TO RECORD

1. iPhone, iPad, Zoom and Loom are all choices of recording tools for their video presentation 
2. Record with both students and their presentation in view
3. Record horizontally for the best view of the students and their presentation
4. Follow Presentation Diagram to the Right

PRESENTATION TIPS.

- Make eye contact with the camera
- Notecards may be used as cue cards
•Pro Tip: Notecards should avoid having a full script
- Even when you are not speaking, don’t forget the camera is still recording!
•Be aware of your body language while you and your business partners are speaking
- Everyone has an opportunity to speak
- Professional dress is encouraged
- Practice makes perfect
•Practice how you will transition from each speaker
•Project your voice when you speak​
