What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up? Shyanne's TEDx Talk
As we go back to school, BUILD is exploring a classic question with a new twist: What do you want to be when you grow up? This time we’re digging deeper than just career paths – it’s about students discovering what kind of person they want to be, and the impact they want to make.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Shyanne saw firsthand what it meant to live in a food desert—neighborhoods where access to fresh, nutritious food is scarce. Inspired to make a change, she joined BUILD and gained entrepreneurial skills that turned her idea into action.
After an internship at farm.one, Shyanne launched In the Pink Produce LLC, an initiative bringing hydroponic indoor farms to NYC communities that need them most. Her mission? To improve health, sustainability, and equity for families like hers.

When Shyanne was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer wasn’t a job title—it was a vision for herself and her community.
This back-to-school season, you can help more students answer that question in powerful ways:
I want to be confident. I want to be innovative. I want to be unstoppable.
Your gift helps make those answers real.
