The Design Question:

“How Might We Build Powerful, Thriving Communities Where Everyone Enjoys Safety, Wellness, And Economic Freedom?”

Our Design Challenge Question empowers students to take action as they work to develop innovative solutions for their communities. Therefore, students are guided through the entire Design Thinking process on our digital platform. Furthermore, BUILD provides all training and materials for students and schools. Then a trained educator delivers the Challenge to students. 

As such, students nationwide gain a strong a sense of self-agency through the Challenge. They explore stories of diverse communities and collaborate in teams to propose innovative solutions.

Why is there www.build.org/challenges and www.builduniversity.org? 

Both websites feature information about BUILD's Design Challenge, but www.builduniversity.org goes into detail about the current 2021-2022 Design Challenge (Thriving Communities). If you're looking to share the Design Challenge to someone for the first time or get them registered, share www.build.org/challenges. After they're familiar with the Challenge, you can recommend then the university website for more information. 

What's the Thriving Communities Design Challenge?

It's the name for the 2021-2022 Design Challenge, where the question is "How Might We Build Powerful, Thriving Communities Where Everyone Enjoys Safety, Wellness, And Economic Freedom?" The Thriving Communities one pager goes into more detail about this year's Design Challenge. Moreover, the website www.builduniversity.org also provides more specific information.

How do I use the social media graphics? 

You can post them on any social media website at any time. Additionally, the first row of images can be used as a set with one person matching to the QR code. You don't need to post the second row too, but they can be posted together or separately. Lastly, the third row can be posted independently or with anything else. 

When do I use the one pagers?

You can use them like flyers whenever you want to share quick, concise information on the challenge. Each design has a back and front. Moreover, you can send them out via email or post them on social media websites.  

What does a BUILD Teacher commitment look like?

A BUILD teacher's commitment can look like this:

· Location: Teachers decide if the Challenge happens in person, virtual, or hybrid.

· Time commitment: The Design Challenge can be delivered in at least 10 hours, but can be used as a launch pad for additional lessons and curricula that can span an entire semester.

HOW TO RECORD

1. iPhone, iPad, Zoom and Loom are all choices of recording tools for their video presentation 
2. Record with both students and their presentation in view
3. Record horizontally for the best view of the students and their presentation
4. Follow Presentation Diagram to the Right

PRESENTATION TIPS.

- Make eye contact with the camera
- Notecards may be used as cue cards
•Pro Tip: Notecards should avoid having a full script
- Even when you are not speaking, don’t forget the camera is still recording!
•Be aware of your body language while you and your business partners are speaking
- Everyone has an opportunity to speak
- Professional dress is encouraged
- Practice makes perfect
•Practice how you will transition from each speaker
•Project your voice when you speak​
