BECOME A MENTOR

CONNECT. ENGAGE. EMPOWER. INVEST IN OUR FUTURE.

As a BUILD Mentor, You Will ...

Guide Students

as they learn about entrepreneurship and develop critical social and emotional learning skills.

Challenge Students

to step outside their comfort zone as they explore college and career aspirations.

Develop Relationships

that promote mutual trust and respect, which provide a source of stability for students.

Connect Students

to resources, new communities, and exciting career opportunities.

The Power of Mentorship

Research shows that students who build relationships with caring, consistent adult mentors set higher educational goals, have better school attendance, grow in essential interpersonal and emotional skills such as self-awareness and problem-solving, and are more likely to complete high school and succeed in college.

The positive impacts increase the longer the mentoring lasts! For example, 67% of young adults found their mentoring relationship very helpful if it lasted for a year or more, versus only 33% when the relationship lasted less than a year. This is why we’d love to see our mentors continue working with students throughout their high school journey.

Mentor Commitment at BUILD

BUILD asks that all mentors commit to working with students for a full academic year. Mentors meet with students for 1.5 hours, weekly throughout the academic year at one of our partner schools. During the COVID-19 pandemic, all mentor sessions are held virtually.
