Research shows that students who build relationships with caring, consistent adult mentors set higher educational goals, have better school attendance, grow in essential interpersonal and emotional skills such as self-awareness and problem-solving, and are more likely to complete high school and succeed in college.
The positive impacts increase the longer the mentoring lasts! For example, 67% of young adults found their mentoring relationship very helpful if it lasted for a year or more, versus only 33% when the relationship lasted less than a year. This is why we’d love to see our mentor continue working with students throughout their high school journey.
